New Delhi, the capital of India, held its first state assembly elections in 1952. Chaudhary Brahm Prakash of the Indian National Congress became the inaugural Chief Minister, serving from March 17, 1952, to February 12, 1955. Since then, elections have been held every five years to elect Delhi's Chief Minister. Most recently, Rekha Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious on February 19, 2025, marking a significant political shift in the capital.
