राम गोपाल वर्मा ने गणेश चतुर्थी के मौके पर कुछ ऐसी ट्वीट्स कीं जो काफी विवादित हैं और हो सकता है कि उससे एक वर्ग की धार्मिक भावनाएं आहत हो जाएं।
हालांकि थोड़ी ही देर बाद ट्वीट कर राम गोपाल वर्मा ने भगवान गणेश के भक्तों से माफी मांग ली, लेकिन तब तक काफी देर हो चुकी थी और उनकी ट्वीट्स ने भक्तों को नाराज कर डाला था।

इसके अलावा उन्होंने लिखा कि आखिर गणेश ने ऐसा क्या काम किया था कि जिसकी वजह से वह भगवानों की श्रेणी में आ गए जबकि उनके भाई सिर्फ एक साधारण इंसान बनकर रह गए।
वर्मा सिर्फ यही नहीं रुके उन्होंने गणेश भक्तों से सवाल कर डाला कि क्या कोई उन्हें बता सकता है कि भगवान गणेश का जन्म आखिर कब हुआ था।
